Although mainly focusing on publication production and sales, China Publishing Group Co Ltd is also involved in paper and digital publishing, copyright trade, book import and export, printing and duplicating, information services, art management, science and technology exploitation and financial investment.

China Publishing Group is established on April 9, 2002.

Under warrant from the State Council, the company was founded on March 25, 2004, exercising the rights of investors in the subsidiaries to preserve and increase the value of the State-owned assets.

The company has been listed as a Top 30 Chinese Cultural Enterprise for six successive years since 2008. In 2013, it was 22nd among the world's largest book publishers, according to a guide released by four periodicals from France,Germany, the United States and Britain.
