Founded in May 2009, Beijing Performance and Arts Group is a State-owned large-scale wholly owned cultural flagship enterprise, operating directly under the management of the Beijing municipal government.
It shoulders the important responsibility of integrating resources, building a State-owned key cultural enterprise, serving Beijing’s development as a national cultural center -- and playing a leading role in the reform and exposition of the national cultural system. At present, it has 29 subsidiary enterprises and institutions.
Many famous artists working in the fields of drama, dance, music, acrobatics, puppetry and filmmaking are employees of the company. Nine theatres and cultural troupes are under the management of the company.
These include the China National Acrobatic Troupe, the China Pingju Opera Theatre, Beijing Dance Drama and Opera Theatre, Beijing Children Art Theatre, Beijing Traditional Folk Arts Troupe and the Beijing Chinese Orchestra.
The group is also responsible for the management of Beijing National Indoor Stadium -- the largest indoor stadium in Asia and a world-class venue for sports and cultural events.
The Beijing Film Company affiliated to the group has integrated film and television investment, filming, production, distribution and projections. It is its largest shareholder, with the annual box office revenue of the New Film Association cinemas topping 1 billion yuan ($141 million) -- accounting for 30 percent of the total box office in Beijing -- earning it the biggest market share in film in Beijing for several consecutive years.
In addition, the group has won many awards, in recognition of its key role in China's cultural sector.
