Slew of top e-sports events to kick off in August in Beijing

Excitement is building as China's capital Beijing gears up to host a slew of top e-sports events, according to local officials.

The first Beijing international e-sports innovation and development conference, an e-sports exhibition and trade fair, the Honor of Kings World Champion Cup and some other e-sports related activities are scheduled to kick off in August in the capital, officials told local media on June 15.

Officials from the State-owned Cultural Assets Administration Center (SOCAAC) of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality said that as part of the ongoing event -- "E-sports Beijing 2020", more than 20 top e-sports events will be staged one after the other in Beijing.

The "E-sports Beijing 2020" series of activities are divided into four sections: brand activities, series competitions, industry exchanges and interactive entertainment activities. Officials said the ongoing activities are mainly in non-contact forms such as online competitions, e-sports themed network variety shows, live streaming interactions, etc.

According to SOCAAC officials, in addition to the above-mentioned activities and top competitions to be held in August, dozens of e-sports related activities will be organized.

These include forums, exhibitions and trade fairs, top professional competitions, competitions for the general public, cultural and entertainment performances, online variety shows and e-sports interactive experience activities.

Officials said that in order to speed up turning Beijing into a "major center for e-sports industry" and promote the high-quality development of Beijing's cultural industry, the capital will continue to strengthen the integration of high-quality resources for the domestic and foreign e-sports industry.

In addition, the city will look at making further improvements and expanding holding e-sports events, e-sports clubs, content spread and distribution, equipment manufacturing, among other things.

Officials said the city will look at R&D, education and training and create an ecosystem conducive to supporting the development of the e-sports industry.
