On Sept 22, the opening ceremony of 2021 Beijing Design Week was held in Zhangjiawan Design Town, Tongzhou district. Zhang Xu, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mo Gaoyi, Member of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal Committee and Minister of the Publicity Department, Jiang Xiaoyu, Vice President of the Beijing Olympic City Development Promotion Association, and Soile Kauranen, Minister of the Embassy of Finland in China, attended the event.

Mo said that Beijing, as a UNESCO "Design City" , continues to occupy an advantageous position in the development of the design service industry in the country. In the future, Beijing will use design to promote cultural decoding, promote the activation and utilization of resources, add industrial value, promote high-quality economic development,  enrich life aesthetics, lead new fashion and new consumption, empower brand building and enhance cultural soft power .

In addition, the posters for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics were officially released. Liu Shaojian, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the SOCAAC and other leaders issued certificates to the poster design contest winners. From Sept 23 to Oct 7, the main design week events, such as the Beijing Design Forum, a themed exhibition, Beijing Design Expo, and Design Tour will be held.
