A flash mob presented Peking Opera and street dance performances in Beijing on Aug 6. The event was to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China and was a joint effort between the Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in Beijing and the Hong Kong Tourism Board.

The event was aimed to show Hong Kong's diverse and inclusive culture and urban lifestyle. The event also aimed to build a bridge between Beijing and Hong Kong.

Artists integrated street dance and Peking Opera themes to show the beauty that connects the two cities as well linking tradition and modernity.

"Young Hong Kong dancers and Peking Opera artists skillfully arranged their understanding and perception of each other's art forms into their new works, which were very creative and well matched, showing the profound friendship between Beijing and Hong Kong," says Pamela Lam, deputy director of the HKSAR Beijing office.

Zoe Lo, director of the mainland Hong Kong Tourism Board, says Hong Kong and the mainland continue to carry out art and cultural exchanges on various levels, which further enriches the content of tourism, culture and art.

"I believe mainland tourists' next visit to Hong Kong will be full of surprises," Lo says.
